Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday: Swing Time by Zadie Smith

Waiting on Wednesday is an ingenious tag hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine where us readers get to gush about anticipated releases of novels!

I intend to participate once a month as I am not sure I am looking forward to four books a month!

My selection this month is: Swing Time by Zadie Smith due to be released on 15 November 2016.

Having read White Teeth recently (blogpost due shortly) and NW next on my list (BBC2 adaptation due on 14 November @ 9pm set to record to watch AFTER said read) I am itching to read Smith’s latest novel. So much so that I am attending a talk by Smith herself at the London Review Bookshop on 21st November and get my hands on a signed copy 🎉.

Goodreads says:

An ambitious, exuberant new novel moving from north west London to West Africa, from the multi-award-winning author of White Teeth and On Beauty.

Two brown girls dream of being dancers – but only one, Tracey, has talent. The other has ideas: about rhythm and time, about black bodies and black music, what constitutes a tribe, or makes a person truly free. It’s a close but complicated childhood friendship that ends abruptly in their early twenties, never to be revisited, but never quite forgotten, either…

Dazzlingly energetic and deeply human, Swing Time is a story about friendship and music and stubborn roots, about how we are shaped by these things and how we can survive them. Moving from North-West London to West Africa, it is an exuberant dance to the music of time.”

You can see why I’m excited right???
